$15 Million, 65-Event Turbo COOP Returns Jan. 18-29

PokerStars' annual TCOOP series arrived on the scene back in 2012 to join the SCOOP and WCOOP as one of online poker's must-play events.

In 2017, that's still the case.

The sixth edition will run from January 18-29 with another fast-paced schedule of 65 events and $15 million in guaranteed prize pools.

The $1,000 TCOOP Main Event will wrap things up on Jan. 29 with a $2.5m guarantee.

If things go like last year, though, when Dinesh 'NastyMinder' Alt took home just south of $400k for the title, players can expect another final table with $1.5m+ to spread around.

Low Buy-Ins, Big Variety

As usual the TCOOP will offer up a wide variety of poker variations and buy-in levels with 5 or 6 new events running daily.

The $215 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo Kickoff event will start things off at 8 am Jan. 18 but action will be fast and furious from then on.

Hold’em, Omaha, Stud, Win the Button, Progressive Knockout, Bubble Rush, Zoom, Hyper-Turbo, Ultra Deep ... whatever your preference you're likely to find it.

TCOOP buy-ins run as low as $7.50 but come in a wide range with tons of options in the $27-$82 range.

TCOOP satellites start even lower from just $0.11 or 1 StarsCoin and run virtually around the clock on the PokerStars client.

Check the full schedule for the 2017 TCOOP below and look in the ‘Events’ > ‘TCOOP’ tab in the PokerStars lobby to find the list of satellites and events.

Search for ‘TCOOP’ via the ‘More’ menu in the mobile app if that's where you're looking.

If you're an online poker player - and specifically a tournament player - you might never leave your house in January.

As if the massive Super XL Series or TCOOP weren't enough, the partypoker Powerfest is back at the end of the month too with 224 events and $11,000,000 guaranteed between January 22 and February 5.

You read that right. 224 events. $11 million in guaranteed prize pools.

Another truly gigantic, all-encompassing two-week online poker festival -- and one that includes two $1 million guaranteed events.

Biggest in the History of Powerfest

As has become the norm in online poker festivals, variety and volume are in no short supply.

party poker table22
Whatever your weight class, something for you.

The 2017 Powerfest is no exception with an astonishing 224 events on the calendar and buy-in levels ranging from $5.50 to $5,200 including 4 separate Main Events.

As usual Powerfest tournaments are ranked by "weight classes," running from Featherweight and Middleweight to Heavyweight and High Roller.

The Featherweight class has events between $5 and $11 with an $11 Main Event set for Jan. 29. The Middleweight Class covers $22-$55 buy-ins with a $55 Main Event also scheduled for Jan. 29.

The Heavyweight Class has $109-$215 buy-ins capped by a $215 Main Even on Feb. 5 with $500,000 GTD. For the big guns in the High Roller Class ($520-$5,200 buy-ins), a $1,050 Main Event with $1m GTD will also run on Feb. 5

Plenty of satellites into the big events are also available.

As an added perk, tourney tickets worth over $225,000 for the upcoming £6m partypoker Millions are there to be won via the Powerfest leaderboard.

"Hosting Powerfest," says Group Head of partypoker Tom Waters, "with our biggest ever guarantee of over $11,000,000 is an exciting challenge for us.

"We are always looking to build on the success of the previous Powerfests we have hosted. We have increased the guarantees on a number of events this time and have also added some new and improved tournaments to the schedule in response to feedback from our players."

PokerStars Revamps Software with Seat Me Tool

$

0

PokerStars launched a new tool called Seat Me today in attempt to protect casual players from hardcore grinders.

Seat Me essentially eliminates the ability to choose your own seat and target specific players in the PokerStars client.

The Seat Me tool also simplifies the game selection process and players should be able to jump into games as soon as they pick their desired stakes.

Seat Me will roll out initially on PokerStars.es and if it’s successful there it will be introduced to other markets.

PokerStars Looks to Eliminate “Bumhunting”

Table selection or “bumhunting” as it’s colloquially known has been an issue across online poker sites for years. PokerStars is just the latest site to attempt to clamp down on the practice.

Interestingly the other Rational Gaming-owned site, Full Tilt Poker, was ahead of the curve when it eliminated table selection in 2015.

PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier

Eliminating bumhunting is just one feature of the software and Seat Me will also:

End seating scripts add-ons, which allow experienced players to prey on new or casual players. Replicate the live poker experience of random seat draws. Allow for penalties on players who constantly switch tables or steal blinds.

One downside of Seat Me is that it would effectively end the ability to observe other tables. Railbirds will still be able to see key hands in a showcase feed that will include Team PokerStars Pros.

Seat Me is one of many initiatives that PokerStars has introduced in the last two years to improve the new player experience.

One key component has been ending, or at least limiting, the ability to harvest hands for advanced data mining.

PokerStars is currently testing anonymous heads-up tables that would allow for HU competitors to be matched randomly.

John Duthie Takes Position as partypoker Live President

Twelve years ago John Duthie changed the poker world forever by creating the European Poker Tour, which later became the crown jewel of the PokerStars live tournament empire.

Now he’s headed to rival poker site partypoker where he’ll serve as the President for all live events for the next five years.

Duthie was very successful as a poker player and has over $3.2m in live tournament earnings but it was his former job as a TV director that helped propel him to success on the EPT.

Duthie Impressed with partypoker Brand

partypoker has already been making inroads in the live tournament scene over the last few years with events at Dusk Till Dawn and the Caribbean.

John Duthie

Duthie still sees plenty of room to grow and has ambitious plans for partypoker live.

“I have been impressed with the progress of partypoker and in particular the number of trusted, experienced and well respected individuals and organisations that have chosen to put their support behind the partypoker brand,” he said.

“I believe there is a gap in the market for an operator whose primary focus is poker and who will listen to, and work with, the poker community as this was something that was absolutely key to the growth and success of the EPT.

“I still love the game just as much as the first time I saw my first flop and I believe this passion will help partypoker LIVE become the largest and most fun poker tour in the world. I plan to enjoy myself immensely working with and meeting old friends.”

partypoker LIVE already stops scheduled to take place in Russia, Austria, Canada and Germany.

partypoker Title Fight Jumps to $325k; Win a Seat from 1c

Before October 2006, when the US passed the UIGEA Safe Port Acts, partypoker was the biggest online poker brand in the world.

With EPT guru John Duthie now leading its expanding partypoker Live Tour and an uncapped boost available for its signature online Sunday tournament, it clearly plans to get that title back.

Starting last year when it launched the new $215 Sunday Title Fight event, partypoker declared it will add $25,000 to its prize pool every week.

Already up to a weekly $300,000 guarantee, this past weekend's tilt saw another $25k added to the pile. Just how far can that Guarantee go? The sky's the limit, says partypoker.

Mateos Claims Latest Title, $50k Overlay

When the Feb. 12 edition of the Title Fight surpassed its $300k guarantee, that triggered a new $25k cash injection for this past weekend's clash.

Adrian Mateos Day2C Main Event
Mateos packs punch.

Yesterday's Title Fight therefore had a boosted $325,000 prize pool and poker pro Adrian Mateos - he of both EPT Grand Final and WSOPE titles - made the most of it by scooping $54k for the win.

The good news for the rest of the field? It didn't actually hit the new guarantee this time and saw a nice overlay spread among the ITM finishers.

The $300k guarantee will reset for next week, though, and there's no cap on how big it can get. That could be $500k, that could be $1m - it all depends on how much online poker players take to the felt to make it happen.

You don't need the full $215 buy-in to make it happen, either, as there are plentiful opportunities to qualify each week online. Steps satellites start at 1 cent and progress upwards to $1.10, $5.50 and the $22 level where over 150 Title Fight tickets can be won each week.

You can also cash in as few as 220 partypoker points to get a $22 satellite ticket and just 1,700 points to buy directly in to the Title Fight. To sign up for a new partypoker account and get right to it, visit our review page for our exclusive bonus.

Title Fight II Added for American Time Zone

With a usual 2pm ET (7 pm GMT) start time the weekly Title Fight isn't always lined up well for grinders in the Eastern time zone so partypoker has introduced a new Title Fight II to cater to those players.

Starting at 6pm ET (11pm GMT) every Sunday the buy-in will still be $215 and you'll get 30,000 chips to start. Blinds increase every 15 minutes for the first 16 levels and then every 20 minutes until a champion is crowned.

As of Feb. 19 there's a $50,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Win a Trip to Virgin Islands for #StreamBoat2017 w/ Perkins

Poker enthusiast Bill Perkins has a mantra for his new poker Twitch channel he does a very effective job of living by.

That mantra? #MakePokerFunAgain.

He puts it to good use regularly on his live streams, more often than not from his yacht off the coast of the Virgin Islands.

Now not only can you enjoy the spoils of those streams vicariously, you have a chance to join him and a few other poker celebs on the boat as part of #StreamBoat2017.

Seat Open on the Thirst Lounge Yacht

As we mentioned last week Perkins, Jeff Gross, Jamie Staples and Matt Staples will be streaming together from Perkins' boat next month.

grossbusinessclass
Flights included.

Dubbed #StreamBoat2017 the four popular streamers will be playing poker/partying/who knows what from the yacht and beyond March 22-28.

And there's a seat available to join them, too - all on Perkins' dime.

All four are now running giveaways on their Twitch Channels for tickets to a private tournament on PokerStars on March 5.

In you make the final 6 in the Streamboat Tourney, you're in the running to go to the Virgin Islands. Giving them some leeway to see who they'd most like to share on a week on a boat with, the Fantastic 4 will then pick one of the six to be their guest.

We'd guess your sense of humor or overall style of play will be a factor, but being "fun" will help your cause. As an added bonus there's also $2,500 cash added to the freeroll.

Plan B - Make a Deposit

If you don't get your ticket from following one of their live streams, you still have hope.

View from the flight deck.

Make a deposit on PokerStars using the code "Streamboat" and you'll get a ticket to a March 4 freeroll.

In that freeroll another $2,500 in prizes are up for grabs and 20 seats will be distributed for the private Streamboat tourney the following day.

All the details can be found on Perkins' Thirst Lounge Channel, Jeff Gross' Flow Show and Staples' PokerStaples stream as well.

PokerStars Bumps 6th Anniversary Sunday Storm to $1m GTD

$

The weekly Sunday Storm is being upgraded to a Category 5 hurricane with a guaranteed $1m prize pool on PokerStars.

The popular $11 buy-in tournament is celebrating its 6th anniversary on Sunday, March 19, and PokerStars will also guarantee at least $100,000 for the first-place prize.

The $100,000 first-place prize is approximately three times larger than the regular payout. It also represents at least 9,000 times the buy-in for a very decent return on investment.

Over $10m in Entries in Six Years

The Sunday Storm has consistently ranked as one of the most popular Sunday tournaments on PokerStars since being introduced six years ago.

ElkY Grospellier
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier

As of this week the Sunday Storm has been played by over 1.2 million players with a staggering $10m+ in entries.

Despite the relatively modest buy-in, you can qualify for the tournament for even less via PokerStars' numerous qualifiers.

There will be three special mega-qualifiers, all taking place on March 19 before the aforementioned Storm, that will divvy out 1,000 seats to the tournament.

The buy-in is just $1.10.

Of course there are also regular daily satellites for the Sunday Storm Special already running on PokerStars including a Sit & Go shootout that’s available for just six StarsCoin.

PokerStars Introduces Rake-Free All-Star Cash Game, $100k in Prizes

$

0

For years the poker industry has been gravitating towards recreational poker players but PokerStars is introducing something for hard-core players with its brand-new All-Star Cash Game.

The All-Star Cash Game is perhaps the first-ever poker initiative that pits the best against the best in a segregated arena.

Why would anyone want to play? Well there’s ego but PokerStars is also putting up $100,000 in leaderboard prizes. The competition will also be rake free.

One Month, $100k in Prizes

The All-Star Cash Game will take place over one month with two stakes NL200 (Masters) and NL2000 (All Stars) in No-Limit Hold’em.

Jason Mercier
Yeah Jason Mercier would likely qualify.

Players will benefit from a rake-free environment with $100,000 in added leaderboard prizes.

Qualifying for the All-Star Cash Game will be tough. Here are the requirements:

Masters level: From NL100-NL400 - at least $10,000 in winnings
All Stars level: From NL500 and up - at least $25,000 in winnings

According to PokerStars there will be no other way to get into the competition.

All-Star players will still be able to play any other games they choose on PokerStars.

In the coming weeks elite players will start getting emails about their eligibility. The plan is to run the event in April-May.

The future of the All-Star Cash Game is entirely dependent on player attendance, according to PokerStars, but there are already plans for second season.

The Sunday Million will officially turn 11 years old next month and PokerStars is celebrating by running a special $10m-GTD edition of the venerable tournament.

PokerStars is mixing things up this time around by giving players 12 different ways to qualify for the momentous tournament including $1 satellites, Spit & Go’s, big MTT qualifiers and many more.

The 11th Anniversary Sunday Million will take place April 2, 2017. The special event will feature the usual buy-in of $215 but will allow up to three re-entries.

First Place to Pay Out $1m, Free Seats

The 11th Anniversary Sunday Million will join an elite crowd by becoming one of few online tournaments with a guaranteed $1m first-place prize.

cash money

Last year Canadian online player a.urli took home $970,000 for winning the 10th Anniversary Sunday Million but that was taking into account a four-way deal.

Even if you don’t have near the bankroll to get into the Sunday Million there are some straight-up freerolls into the massive event.

PokerStars will host three Hyper-Turbo Freerolls, which each award 200 free seats into the Sunday Million 11th Anniversary event plus $1,000 in cash.

The freerolls will take place March 18, March 25 and April 1 and all you need to get them is one ticket, which you can get for signing up for a PokerStars account.

The biggest qualifier of all, with 1,000 seats guaranteed, is the $11 Deadline Satellite on April 2nd at 13:00 ET, just before the big dance.

You can add former Formula 1 legend Mika Häkkinen to the list of notable sports stars who have signed with online poker sites.

Unibet picked up Häkkinen to promote the Finnish-facing site and produce “insider” content for Formula 1. It’s not clear if Häkkinen will represent the brand in any upcoming Unibet Open tournaments.

Häkkinen is one of the greatest Formula 1 racers in the history of the sport and won the 1998 and 1999 championships driving for McLaren.

Häkkinen to Provide Formula 1 Scoops

Unibet has been marketing heavily to recreational players recently and bringing in some non-poker people like eSports streamers to compete in its Battle Royale format Sit & Go's.

Viktor Blom
Will Viktor Blom be next?

Signing sports stars is nothing new as Neymar Jr., Cristiano Ronaldo and Denílson all currently represent online poker sites.

Häkkinen doesn’t have a ton of experience in the poker world but was renowned for his calm under pressure during his racing days, which should translate nicely if he decides to take a spin at the tables.

The Unibet brand has been very busy signing players lately and inked Ian Simpson, Dara O’Kearney and Dave Lappin as brand ambassadors in late February. Sam Grafton and Charlotte van Brabander were already on the squad.

There were also rumors Unibet might sign high-stakes legend Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, who has taken part in Unibet Open events, but so far nothing has been announced.

Do you want to know who the best No-Limit Hold'em cash game players in the world are?

And who would win if they were matched up in a month-long, rake-free cash-game series?

You're not alone.

PokerStars' new All Stars Cash Game series begins next month with an invite-only lineup of the game's best willing to battle it out for both bragging rights and an extra $100,000 in leaderboard prizes.

All Stars, Masters Square Off

Here's how it'll work: Two cash-game tables will run independently from each other for the duration of of the series (April 12-May 10). Both will be No-Limit Texas Hold'em and both will be entirely rake free.

Anonymous Heads-Up Tables
Who will it be?

The two tables are:

The All Stars Table - $10/$20 No-Limit Hold'em The Masters Table - $1/$2 No-Limit Hold'em

To fill the seats PokerStars has invited a selection of players based on their long-term winnings and skill. Players won't necessarily be PokerStars pros unless they have qualified on the merits of their cash-game prowess.

Players can also be removed from the tables if they don't measure up. $100,000 in Leaderboard prizes will be on the table as added incentive along with plenty of social media and press coverage.

Leaderboard bonuses will be paid out based on direct winnings from the tables. Prizes will be in cash and the top five players will be invited to join All Stars Season 2.

All Stars Payouts

1st $20,000  2nd $13,500 3rd $10,000 4th $7,500 5th $5,000

Masters Payouts

1st $5,000 plus $2k to play All Stars Season 2 2nd $4,000 plus $2k to play All Stars Season 2 3rd $3,000 plus $2k to play All Stars Season 2 4th $2,500 plus $2k to play All Stars Season 2 5th $2,000 plus $2k to play All Stars Season 2 6th-10th $1,500

There will be also be two Volume Leaderboards that will pay out an extra $10,000 to players based on the total numbers of hands played. Prizes are on top of any winnings from the cash game and will be paid on May 18. Players must play 2,000 hands to qualify for any prizes.

partypoker Powerfest Explodes in May w/ 300 Events, $20m GTD

$

300+ events. 15 days of wall-to-wall poker. $20 million guaranteed to be paid out.

Let those numbers roll around for a little bit.

We've seen some big partypoker Powerfests before but the upcoming May series is set to blow them all out of the water with a massive (and diverse) lineup of events and that extraordinary $20m guarantee.

It all starts May 7 and before things wrap on May 21 will see at least 8 events with 7-figure guarantees.

Buy-ins From as Low as $5.50

With John Duthie at the helm and a booming opening event in Sochi setting the tone, the partypoker Live Tour has grand ambitions for 2017 and that clearly hold true for its online tournament vision.

samtrickett1
Expect to see a lot of Sam Trickett.

After guaranteeing over $11m in the Jan/Feb version of Powerfest, this May's $20m GTD puts it all on the line:

“We decided to go for it this time," says Managing Director of partypoker, Tom Waters, "and increase the total guaranteed prize pool for the upcoming Powerfest to over $20 million.

"There are some fantastic new headline events in the series, including three $1m guaranteed editions of the Title Fight, a $2m charity event and eight phased tournaments covering a range of buy-ins.

"I’m confident that the players will love the variety of events on offer and will relish the opportunity to become a Powerfest champion.”

With buy-ins from $5.50 all the way up to $25,000, variety is indeed the name of the game. partypoker's signature "multi-phase" tournaments are also front and center with 8 phased events and Phase 1s running several times daily.

Guarantees in those events exceed $3.6m while the four Main Events across four weight classes guarantee $2.1m.

Another highlight will be the new $25,500 Super High Roller on May 17 with fees donated to a charity of the champion’s choosing. If there are more than 100 entrants, partypoker will add $50,000 to the donation.

$55m PokerStars SCOOP Biggest in History, Starts Apr. 30

The bar has been raised for online poker series yet again.

On the heels of yesterday's $20 million Powerfest announcement, PokerStars has released the schedule for the upcoming 2017 Spring Championship of Online Poker and it's a whopper.

In fact, it's the biggest ever.

With a total series guarantee of $55 million, which is $15,000,000 more than SCOOP 2016, the 2017 SCOOP will be the biggest series in the history of online poker.

New Phase Tournaments from $5.50

The 2017 SCOOP will also be the most accessible in its history with buy-ins starting as low as $5.50.

scoop26 h
It's all happening again.

An extra week has been added to the series as well to accommodate new 'phased' tournaments running at $11, $109 and $1,050 buy-in levels.

After that first week things get back to a more traditional SCOOP schedule packed with diverse events and buy-ins.

With three tiers of buy-ins - $5.50 (low), $55 (medium) and $530 (high) - there should be an event for everyone with the gamut of No-Limit Hold'em and PLO events alongside lesser-known variants like 5-Card No-Limit Omaha 8 and Fixed-Limit Badugi.

Popular specialty events like Win the Button and Progressive 100% Knockout also return.

Check the full 2017 SCOOP schedule below; open a new account via our PokerStars review to access our $600 sign-up bonus.

Need some added incentive to play the $10 million Anniversary Sunday Million this weekend?

Probably not. But if so:

PokerStars has announced it will also randomly distribute up to 99 tickets to this Sunday's €530 Monte Carlo Mega Satellite during the Sunday Million.

So on top of shooting for the $1m first-place prize in the Milly you might also spend your Sunday vying for 1 of 50 €8,500 packages available for the upcoming PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo Casino Main Event.

Take Your Seat Early

With $10m up for grabs in the 11th Anniversary Sunday Million, there's no time for dawdling or late reg anyway. But if you need some extra motivation to get to your seat early, here it is:

sunday million

The free tickets to the Mega Satellite will be dropped randomly on the tables starting at 14:30 ET -- just 30 minutes after the start of the Sunday Million.

Tickets will be awarded to 11 tables at random corresponding to the number of players at each table.

If you are one of the lucky ones who receive a ticket, you'll have to flash some of those multi-tabling skills as the Monte Carlo Mega Satellite begins at 14:35 ET.

If you're still looking for an entry into the big dance on Sunday for less than the $215 buy-in, opportunities still abound. A Hyper-Turbo freeroll with 200 seats to award will run on April 1 and all you need to do to get a ticket is open a new PokerStars account.

An $11 Deadline Satellite with 1,000 seats guaranteed will run on April 2nd at 13:00 ET, just before the Sunday Million. To create a new PokerStars account and access our $600 sign-up bonus, click through to our PokerStars review.

Bulk Up: $1m Guaranteed Title Fight Hits partypoker April 2

The bell is about to ring for a very big Sunday of online poker.

While the Sunday Million has bumped its guarantee up to $10m for its 11th anniversary, the partypoker Title Fight isn't backing down from the challenge.

partypoker's competing $215 buy-in Sunday major will also have a major prize pool injection this weekend - a $1m guarantee instead of its usual $250,000.

Something else you can bank on: A much smaller field than the Sunday Million.

Satellites Ahoy

To meet that behemoth guarantee the $1m GTD Title Fight has to hit 5,000 entries and we'd expect it to give it a good go.

lobbytitlefight
Boatloads of satellites.

Obviously required to do that: a massive amount of satellite qualifiers, and they're definitely doing their best on partypoker to fill some seats.

Dozens of satellites are running right now and will continue to run right up to the start of the Title Fight at 2 pm ET on Sunday.

1 cent buy-in “Centroll” tournaments run throughout the day and award tickets to $1.10 satellites. Those in turn pay out $5.50 satellite tickets which then lead you to the $22 level.

Each daily $22 Satellite guarantees from 2-20 $215 tickets, which is your entry ticket level the $1m Title Fight. $44 buy-in satellites also have $215 Tickets on offer.

If you have plenty of loyalty points in your account you can swap 1,720 points for a Title Fight ticket, too. Follow partypoker on Twitter or Facebook for Title Fight giveaways as well.

Added Incentive: Play Becker or Trickett HU

Once you've acquired your $215 buy-in you'll exchange said money for 30,000 tournament chips to start the Title Fight.

Boris Becker
Bonus throwdown with Becker, too.

Blinds start at 75/150 with a 25 ante and increase every 15 minutes. Late registration is open until the end of the 12th level and you can re-enter twice.

If you live in of any countries listed below there's some added incentive for you win the tournament.

If you do you’ll also get to play one of the partypoker ambassadors heads-up for a $25,000 Powerfest seat.

UK, Canada, Russia: Winner plays Sam Trickett heads up for $25k Powerfest Event 301 seat.
Brazil: Winner plays Joao Simao heads up for $25k Powerfest Event 301 seat.
Germany: Winner plays Boris Becker heads up for $25k Powerfest Event 301 seat.

Check the Power Series>High>All in the partypoker tournament lobby for more details about the Title Fight and its satellites. Open a new account via our review page to access our $500 partypoker sign-up bonus.

Panama's Xavi666 Soars to $1.1m Sunday Million Win

When your previous best online poker cash is $3,500 and suddenly you're discussing a deal at the Sunday Million final table for hundreds of thousands, you take it, right?

Not Panama's Xavi666.

Outlasting 55,000+ entries in the 11th Anniversary Sunday Million for a life-changing score just didn't cut it for Xavi so he shut down talk of a deal 4-handed that would have secured him $663k.

Luckily for him, he held his ground and went on to win it all to collect the whole $1.1 million first-place prize for himself - and, we assume, make himself a legend in the Panamanian poker community.

$11.1m Prize Pool Smashes Guarantee

With a $10m guarantee it was no surprise poker players around the globe found $215 for the buy-in by hook or by crook. So many players entered (or re-entered) in fact, the prize pool soared to over $11.1m.

finaltable
Congratulations indeed!

The top 9,206 players shared in the money with $78,086 secured for making the final table.

It was an intriguingly global mix of players who prevailed all the way to the final nine with players from Panama, Sweden, Vietnam, Colombia, Belgium, the UK, Belarus and Australia representing.

Unfortunately for the two Aussies they got the smallest share of the purse when they busted in 9th and 8th.

The heads-up battle between Sweden's Mouzen and Xavi666 was one of two players about to make poker dreams come true as Mouzen also had a career-best score of under $10k prior.

On the 4th hand of HU Mouzen must have thought his ship had come in when he found KK but Xavi666 hit a T-high straight on the turn and that was that. Mouzen's runner-up finish was worth $785,999.34, though - a substantial climb from $10,000.

Rec Players In, High-Volume Players Out in PokerStars New Rewards Program

PokerStars is once again tweaking its rewards program with an eye towards recreational players.

The company already announced it was designing a new program in September but Severin Rasset, PokerStars Director of Poker Operations, detailed some of the changes today.

The main focus of the new program will be a shift from volume-based rewards that span months to shorter-term rewards that will provide instant gratification.

PokerStars already incorporated some of those recreational player focused changes last year with VIP Steps but more are coming, according to Rasset.

Crossplay with Casino, Sports Sites

The new rewards program will work seamlessly across PokerStars’ poker, sports betting and casino products.

That means casino players can use the various StarsCoins they’ve accrued on poker and vice versa.

The old monthly volume-based rewards plan, made famous by the fabled SuperNova Elite status, will be retired completely.

PokerStars ambassador Daniel Negreanu

The majority of players on the site won’t be affected by the changes but extremely high-volume players could have their potential rewards reduced by as much as 80-85% (based on rakeback).

Meanwhile the new program will still reward players for volume but there will be a number of other factors taken into consideration including stakes, frequency of play and net deposits.

The new system will also incorporate “gamification” with rewards for small achievements but the exact details are still being hammered out.

In addition the new loyalty program will feature random rewards at various points. The random rewards will usually be small but sometimes players will reap huge rewards, similar to a Spin & Go.

Earlier this week PokerStars sent direct emails to high-volume players to help communicate the change and avoid the issues that came with axing Super Nova Elite in 2015.

Details about the new loyalty program will be released over the next few months with plans to roll out the program first in Denmark in May and then the rest of the world by summer.
